MADLAB will be exhibiting Reverberating at the 3D Printshow NYC this week, so I thought I'd create a post that is iteratively updated with snippets of the journey from Pittsburgh to New York.
PGH – Display Design & Fabrication
Tuesday February 11th
Because the three collars and stands needed to fit into my carry-on for my flight to NY, I designed flat-pack stands from reflective black and transparent acrylic. I mocked up laser cut acrylic to test the assembly for its rigidity –– the friction-fit tight enough to avoid gluing the acrylic.
PGH >>> NYC – Packaging & Breath-Holding
Wednesday February 12th
I created a carrying case out of duct-tape reinforced eps foam, zip ties, and hot glue ...then I held my breath until arriving to New York. Fortunately, everything arrived in one piece.
NYC – Installation
Thursday February 13th
After some delay in travel, I was able to install the collars at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea; a terrific venue for the Printshow.
NYC – Wonderful Encounters
February 13th – 15th
The 3D Printshow was an amazing opportunity to share my work with a larger computational fashion community – and I was incredibly honored to be in the same room as so many other talented designers and artists. Of note was seeing Nervous System's new work, Kinematics, meeting Kristin Neidlinger of Sensoree, Michaella Janse van Vuuren, Mary Huang of CONTINUUM, and Bre Pettis of Makerbot.
The project also garnered some coverage from The Creator's Project, Complex Style, and Mashable:
A special thanks should go out to the organizers of the 3D Printshow, whose tireless efforts battled two snow-storms, and delivered a quality event.
