[En]Coding Architecture – The Book
The autonomy of architecture, code, fabrication, material morphology, robots, machinic desire and computation.
[En]Coding Architecture is a book on the autonomy of architecture, code, fabrication, material morphology, robots, machinic desire and computation. The book presents how the language and tools of computer sciences are influencing computational thinking for architecture and the built environment. It positions the field of architecture as an alloy of programming, digital tooling, art, and science. It synthesizes new trajectories for the profession in a cybernetic context of tectonics, cultural philosophy, architectural theory and geopolitics. Contributors to [En]Coding Architecture show work outlining the shifting role of the designer/architect in the age of code, moving beyond a clear differentiation of disciplines.

Under the Fold
[En]Coding Architecture began as a 3-day conference in Februrary of 2013. The conference, developed and led by Liss Werner, was organized to highlight the multi-faceted way in which computation is infiltrating the design, practice, and research of Architecture. After the conference, Madeline Gannon was brought on to help translate the energy and discourse into a book, as well as contribute work and an introductory essay.
Other persons who were central to the book's success are Lena Tesone (graphic design and layout,) and Mike Jeffers (cover art).
